See Savini’s Head Explode in Gory Detail: Maniac coming To Blu-Ray!

The tag-line told us, “I warned you not to go out tonight.” Well, now we have a reason to stay in. Being released in an amazing 30th Anniversary Edition package, is the cult film, “Maniac”! Filled to the brim with features, Blue Underground is releasing the William Lustig film on October 26 on standard DVD as well as on Blu-Ray.   Read on for more details…

Among the features are two commentaries with the cast and crew and interviews with Caroline Munro, Tom Savini, the composer Jay Chattaway, and more. If you don’t already own this 1980′s treasure, the price of the film is worth it alone just to witness a classic scene involving Tom Savini at the wrong end of a shotgun.  To add to the ever growing popularity of this title, Alexander Aja announced this past weekend  at Comic- Con that he wants to “be involved” in a remake of the original film.  Maybe this announcement will open the door to a whole group of new fans that can discover the film on DVD.   With the recent announcements concerning the release of other classic horror films like “The Evil Dead”, “The Exorcist”, “Se7en”, and “Psycho”, horror fans will be able to re-live these masterpieces of the macabre in glorious Blu-Ray sound and picture. Make sure to mark your calendars and pre-order this cult classic from Amazon today.

Somewhere between growing up on a steady diet of Saturday morning trips to the local comic-book shop, collecting an unhealthy amount of action figures, and frequent viewings of Ray Harryhausen and Hammer Horror films, came forth a nerdy boy that was torn between journalism and the arts. In high school, Michael found himself writing a movie column for the school newspaper. Yet, he went on to get a BFA in Studio Art at Webster University. The battle between these two worlds has finally ceased with his current position as Managing Editor for DestroyTheBrain.com. When not writing about films, you can still find him discussing classic horror, collecting action figures, and reading Batman. Clearly, not much has changed.

With Caroline Munro in the film and also including an interview with her, well, what more could you ask for?

Looking at the cover of the dvd, I'm glad you gave us a 'heads up".
