Well, it is officially the middle of the week. Not too much longer until Halloween! I hope everyone has their costumes and plans already made. As you know, this week I am having the DTB writers to take a day and tell you, the readers, their top five films that get them into the Halloween spirit. Today, we give you another Top 5 list from one of our writers, Nyquill.

Burnt Offerings

Such a great supernatural tale. Its one of my favorite ghost movies and I love how the sprits of the house get stronger and stronger with each death. Bette Davis is in it and the house is so damn creepy it’s the ultimate setting for a supernatural tale. The score and acting are great and it’s a movie I always watch during Halloween.

Phantasm

This is a movie that I am pleased to see anytime it is on but it’s a must have to watch around Samhain. The Tallman is one of my favorite horror icons and who can’t love the silver balls, cloaked midgets, and that sweet car the Barracuda the brother drove. Its one of the darkest films not only in theme but also in setting its like most of the film was shot at night.

Halloween II

Even more than the first one only because it finishes the night. The first movie is of legend status but the second in my opinion is not my Aliens to Alien but my Godfather 2 to the The Godfather in the horror world meaning it’s not better but as good. One of my many Halloween traditions is to always watch Halloween 2 before I go to sleep the night of Halloween because it’s fitting to end the night on. People never discuss 2 but I think it’s highly underrated.

An American Werewolf in London

October is usually cold and rainy here in St. Louis and it always reminds me of the guys in AAWIL walking around saxon country in the middle of night after they leave the small tavern. Just the transformation scene alone is worth a double play during October to give you a cold shrill up your spine to remind you of the changing of seasons. Another underrated aspect of this film is the creepy dead friend that follows the main character throughout the movie.

Creepshow

Stephen King’s anthology of horror is a great watch because each tale gets better and better as the movie goes on. As a child I remember the seaweed zombies from “Something to Tide” you over giving me nightmares for week. You can’t go wrong with the Duo of George Romero and Stephen King and I’m sure it’s what allowed them to work on future projects eve though none of them have had the long term success of Show. It’s a film that no matter which of the 5 tales is on around this time of the year it has me hooked for the rest of the movie.
